AKWESASNE -- St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police charged a Massena man with more than a dozen offenses after allegedly fleeing officers at speeds of up to 98 miles per hour while intoxicated and crashing, according to tribal police.
Johnny D. Square, 22, allegedly fled a March 25 traffic stop on state Route 37 and headed west, turning north onto Cook Road, according to tribal police Chief Matt Rourke.
From there, police ceased their pursuit and found him a little ways up the road. He had failed to negotiate a turn and crashed, and patrols located Square after he had fled on foot. His blood alcohol level was allegedly .16 percent, Rourke said.
Square was charged with misdemeanors including reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.
He is also charged with two counts of speeding for allegedly going as fast as 98 mph in a 35 mph zone, failure to comply with police, operating a motor vehicle out of class, failure to signal, driving left of pavement markings, unsafely moving from lane and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
