NORWOOD – A Norwood man gave himself up to police early Sunday after hitting a pole and a building downtown with his vehicle Saturday night and fleeing the scene, according to police.
Chet V. Gray, 22, 64 N. Main St, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, failing to stop at a stop sign, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and aggravated unlicensed operation.
The accident occurred when Gray went through the stop sign at Spring Street and Main Street at about midnight Saturday night, according to Police Chief Jay Harris.
The vehicle struck and damaged a utility pole before striking a building.
Gray allegedly drove away with a passenger in the vehicle.
Chief Harris said they caught up with Gray about an hour later after an officer ran the plate number and got an address. Gray gave himself up to officers.
A blood sample was taken from Gray in the DWI investigation while he was at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment of injuries, before he was released.
Chief Harris said Gray was issued appearance tickets, and more charges might be made.
