OGDENSBURG -- City police say they charged a man with burglary after he allegedly stole a television from Walmart, entering the store in violation of a court order, and was later apprehended after fleeing along a nearby river bank.
Shayne A. Austin, 21, of 30 Country Club Road, Gouverneur is charged with a felony count of third-degree burglary.
Police said Austin took from the store a Sanyo LED TV, and had entered the store in violation of a court order barring him from the premises. This led to the burglary charge, police said.
Austin was trying to get the TV into a waiting car with confronted by an off-duty police officer. Austin fled on foot through yards, making it to the river, where he went along the river bank and hid under a dock. He was taken into custody by patrols searching the area, according to police.
He is being held in city lockup pending arraignment.
