OGDENSBURG -- A Utica man was charged with attempted murder after he tried to shoot a victim on Caroline Street Monday.
Jahmese J. Rivers, 18, 214 Arthur Street, Utica, New York was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Rivers was held in lock up pending arraignment.
The Ogdensburg Police Department responded to the call at approximately 5:36 p.m. after receiving a report of gun shots fired in the area of the 900 Block of Caroline Street. Officers responded and secured the crime scene.
Police initiated a search of the city after a suspect had been developed.
At approximately 6:08 p.m. a suspect was taken into custody without incident. A handgun was located inside of a residence located in the City of Ogdensburg, according to police.
As a result of the investigation it was determine that one shot was fired at an intended victim, police said..
"Fortunately, the victim nor anyone else in the residential neighborhood were struck or injured," police said in a released statement.
The Ogdensburg Police was assisted in the investigation by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, United States Border Patrol, St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, and the Ogdensburg Fire Department.
