NORFOLK -- A Norfolk man was released on probation after allegedly attempting to abduct an 11-year-old girl Wednesday.
Norfolk Town Police Department charged John W. Michaud, 68, of 24 Hepburn St. Norfolk on for three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The charges follow an investigation of a reported attempted abduction.
Police say Michaud is accused of stopping his vehicle, a 1994 light blue Ford Ranger pickup, at the corner of Bank Street and Morris Street in Norfolk and asking an 11-year-old girl if she wanted a ride.
Police say Michaud then tried to get her to go with him by telling her that her mother had sent him to pick her up.
When the child refused to go with Michaud, he drove away from the scene.
Michaud was arraigned in Norfolk Town Court by Justice Grubee and released to probation supervision and he is to appear in court again at a later date.
