BRASHER – State police arrested a Malone man on drunk driving charges following a one-car roll-over crash on county Route 55 March 29 around 8 p.m.

Ervin E. Francis IV, 27, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, open container in a motor vehicle, speed not reasonable and prudent and failure to use a designated lane.

Troopers said a witness at a nearby residence called 911 after hearing the loud crash of the car rollover and watching the driver of the car flee into nearby woods on foot.

Troopers used a K-9 unit to locate Francis about a half mile southwest of the scene of the accident.

Francis’ blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.18 percent, said state police.

He was not injured during the crash.

Francis was arraigned in Brasher town court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond bail.

He is scheduled to reappear in town court April 18 at 6 p.m.
