MADRID – The St. Lawrence County Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Places project recently invested in the Madrid Youth Commission by helping them replace their aging skates, hockey sticks and sleds.
The health initiative invests in projects that make it easier to be physically active and to eat healthy foods as part of the state-wide obesity and type 2 diabetes prevention effort.
The Madrid Youth Commission partnering with the municipality and other community organizations, such as the Madrid Volunteer Rescue Squad, offers skating opportunities to the community at the outdoor rinks on Church Street in Madrid.
When weather permits sliding on a manmade snow mountain adjacent to the rink is also offered. The Madrid Outdoor Rinks are open for skating Sunday – Thursday 6 – 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 1 – 4 p.m. and again 6 – 9 p.m.
Creating Healthy Places are looking for other projects to invest in.
If you have a project that supports St. Lawrence County residents in being physically active or to eat healthier foods, call 261-4760 to reach Karen Bage, ext. 224 or Tracy Moody, ext. 228. You may also reach Karen and Tracy by email at karen@gethealthyslc.org or tracy@gethealthyslc.org.
