MADRID -- At the recent AAUW-NYS Convention in Buffalo, St. Lawrence County Branch member Tina Flanagan, Madrid, was recognized at the 2015 Emerging Leader for the branch.

She joined the St. Lawrence County Branch at the beginning of 2014, agreeing to serve as Program VP for a two-year term in May 2014. She immediately dove into the work of the branch, bringing her energy and her passion for education and equity to the work. As an employee of SUNY Canton, she has helped build and strengthen ties to that College-University AAUW partner institution.

She actively organized a joint project with SUNY Canton, the annual clothing fair, using her organization skills to schedule volunteers. The next joint project is the Women In Engineering Day on May 13 at SUNY Canton for 130 middle school girls from St. Lawrence County schools.

Branch president Betty Connelly, South Colton, says, “Tina is a can-do person who is a pleasure to work with. Her infectious smile and positive attitude attract other people to the work of AAUW.”

Membership in the St. Lawrence County Branch, founded in 1927, is open to anyone who supports the mission of AAUW: Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.

AAUW, with its nationwide network of more than 150,000 members and supporters, more than 1,000 branches conducting programs in communities across the country, and 869 college and university partners (including all four local colleges), has been a leading advocate for equity and education for women and their families since 1881.
