Madrid-Waddington recognizes 10 honor grads

MADRID -- Ten students at Madrid-Waddington Central School will graduate with honors this year.

Honor graduate designation of Summa Cum Laude signifies that a student has attained a cumulative high school average of 95 or above; Magna Cum Laude of 93 or above; and Cum Laude of 90 or above.

Commencement exercises will be Friday at 7 p.m. in the John Dinneen Auditorium.

Mary E. Young, daughter of Lee and Anne Marie Young, Waddington, will attend Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in Engineering. Mary was named an RIT Presidential Scholar and graduates Summa Cum Laude from MWCS.

Anna Cassidy Scott, daughter of Mark and Kelly Scott, Waddington, will attend St. Lawrence University, majoring in Biology, with a minor in Sports Studies and Exercise Science. Cassidy is a recipient of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship and graduates Summa Cum Laude from MWCS.

Austin P. Lanning, son of Leif and Susan Lanning, Madrid, received Academic All-Northern in Track and Basketball. Austin graduates Magna Cum Laude from MWCS.

Jennifer Ann King, daughter of David and LouAnne King, Waddington, will attend Cornell University majoring in Animal Science. Jennifer graduates Magna Cum Laude from MWCS.

Sophia M. Roome, daughter of William and Paige Roome, Madrid will attend St. Lawrence University with a focus on Geology or Neuroscience. She received the Augsbury Scholarship. Sophia graduates Magna Cum Laude from MWCS.

Kirstin B. Liddell, daughter of Kevin and Kelly Liddell, Lisbon. Kirstin will attend Keuka College for their Occupational Therapy Masters Program. She received the Board of Trustees Scholarship from Keuka. Kirstin graduates Magna Cum Laude from MWCS.

Willow D. Van Patten, daughter of Brad and Mickie Van Patten, Madrid, will attend Hofstra University majoring in Liberal Arts, and has received the Dean’s Scholarship from Hofstra. Willow graduates Cum Laude from MWCS.

Ashley M. Furgison, daughter of Jack and Cynthia Furgison, will attend SUNY Canton in the fall to study Criminal Investigation. Ashley graduates Cum Laude from MWCS.

Amelia A. Bailey, daughter of David and Christine Bailey, Potsdam, will be attending St. Bonaventure University this fall with plans to study Journalism and Mass Communication. Amelia graduates Cum Laude from MWCS.

Dia M. MacKay, daughter of Thomas and Colleen MacKay, will attend Jefferson Community College to study Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies. Dia graduates Cum Laude from MWCS.
