MADRID -- Bryan Harmer has been selected as the new high school principal of Madrid-Waddington Central School, effective July 1.
His appointment was approved Tuesday night at the regularly scheduled board meeting.
Harmer will replace long-time principal Joseph Ruddy, who will retire in June.
Harmer taught social studies at Parishville-Hopkinton for 22 years, where he also served as varsity basketball and baseball coach.
He is a resident of Chipman, which is in the Madrid-Waddington school district.
"The board and I are very pleased at the quality of the applicants we had to choose from and we are confidant that our new principal will be up to the task of 'filling Mr. Ruddy's shoes' upon his retirement," Madrid-Waddington School Board President Michael J. Miller said.
Superintendent Lynn M. Roy said she also believed Harmer would be a good fit.
"Mr. Harmer brings strong leadership, instructional and curriculum development skills to his new role,” she said.
