MADRID – Forty-five Madrid-Waddington seniors earned their diplomas Friday night at Madrid-Waddington Central School.

Those students were Destini Roze Allen, Amelia Anne Bailey, Autumn F. Beckstead, Natalie Leona Boland, Kevin Austin Brassard, Taylor Mary Burleigh, Dennis V. Burnor, Kaylynn Christine Carkner, Jacob David Desing, Katlyn Jean Dominy, Cole R. Donnelly, Samantha Brooke Dugan, Noah H.H. Dupray;

And Kaleigh Stephanie Field, Ashley Marie Furgison, Selena Marie Gonzalez, Mathew Avery Hayes, Jennifer Ann King, Nick Ladoceour, Austin P. Lanning, Kirstin Brianna Liddell, Dia Marie MacKay, Dakota James Matthie, Corinne Alexis McKnight, Baylee Ann McMahon, Taylor Nicole Measheaw, Liam Shea Miller, Luke M. Miller;

Dylan J. Myers, Sarah Ann Naccari, Alyssa Lynn Norman, Alvin R. Odendahl, Brendan Scott O’Neil, Noah K. Pandit, Dakotah J. Parmeter,Tyler Michael Robinson,Sophia M. Roome, Ashley Nicole Rubas, Anna Cassidy Scott, Zachery Scott Taylor, Michael Spencer Thew, Harrison Thomas VanBuren, Willow D. Van Patten, Brandon James Vice, Mary Elizabeth Young.

Awards were also presented at the ceremony.

• Katlyn Dominy, Corrine McKnight and Mary Young were awarded the Matthew Manchester Memorial Scholarship of $500. The award was donated by Manchester’s family and friends. Matthew was from the graduating class of 2000, and he went on to attend Albany College of Pharmacy

• Mary Young and Austin Lanning earned the Foreign Language Award, which was presented by Mrs. Bonnie Chichester and Ms. Marrama, to a student or students who achieve the Highest French and Spanish Averages throughout high school.

• Brendan O’Neill was awarded the $100 Jonathan Moulton Memorial Scholarship. Jonathan’s family established an endowment so that this award could by presented each year in his name.

• The Math Department presents an award to three seniors excelling in the field of Mathematics to Cassidy Scott, Jennifer King and Mary Young.

• Miss Conni Vebber had an enthusiasm for life that was contagious. Her positive outlook helped her students realize that with a good attitude, anything was possible. Two awards of $300 will go to Katlyn Dominy and Cole Donnelly

• An award of $50 went to Noah Pandit through a donation for the late Mrs. Pat Young, in memory of Diane Graves. Diane and Pat volunteered many hours working on the Waddington Homecoming Committee and this award honors a student who demonstrates a spirit of volunteerism.

• In memory of Donnie Green and Mark Hebert, The Sons of the American Legion presented four awards $500 each to, Zachary Taylor, Kaleigh Field, Kevin Brassard and Katyln Dominy.

• The Sons of the American Legion offered granted a $100 scholarship to Alvin Odendahl

• The Champion-Hobkirk American Legion Post 420 awarded scholarships in memory of WWII veteran Ernest W. Blair, funded by his grandson Dr. Mark Blair. Those awards were $1,000 to Liam Miller and Allyssa Norman, $500 to Kaleigh Field and Kristin Liddell and $250 to Tyler Robinson, Sophia Roome and Alshey Fergison.

• Natalie Boland was given a scholarship of $100, as made possible from the Jeffrey Scott Page Memorial Fund to assist a student in pursuing a higher level of education.

• $100 Awards of Excellence were presented by Molly Pressey to Cassidy Scott and Noah Duprey who are representative of the dedicated and hard working students that attend Madrid Waddington Central School.

• The Madrid Rescue Squad is awarding the following scholarship to a senior residing in Madrid who plans to attend college in the fall. Baylee McMahon was granted $100.

• The Donald J. Connor Scholarship of $500 went to Jennifer King, made possible by the Madrid-Waddington Teachers’ Association.

• An award presented to graduating seniors who have been academically outstanding in their high school career from a former kindergarten teacher. Claudia Moulton presented $100 each to Austin Lanning, Jennifer King, Willow VanPatten, Alyssa Norman and Samantha Dugan.

• A $100 scholarship went to Matthew Thew who is continuing on with higher education. The award was presented by the Waddington Chamber of Commerce.

• The David Moriarty Memorial Scholarship was created to honor David who was a 1977 graduate of Madrid-Waddington and who visited our computer classes as part of his job with IBM. Two awards of $75 went to Jacob Desing and Ashley Rubas.

• The Patricia Logan Memorial Scholarship Presented by the First Presbyterian Church of Waddington in the amount of $400 went to Willow VanPatten.

• Ashley Rubas and Alyssa Norman earned the Charlotte C. Gallagher Memorial Award The award recognizes the positive influence she had on others throughout her lifetime.

• The friends and family of Peggy Jenner are awarded to $250 memorial scholarships to honor the life and teaching career of an amazing human being. These awards went to Corrine McKnight and Harrison VanBuren

• A $500.00 scholarship award made possible by the Madrid-Waddington Teachers’ Association to the senior boy or girl that shows an interest in extracurricular activities and exhibits a spirit of volunteerism and community in memory of Neil T. Grasso went to Amelia Bailey.

• Two $100 awards donated by the Community Bank, N.A. Madrid Branch went to Brandon Vice and Selina Gonzales.

• Baylee McMahon and Dylan Meyers both earned $50 awards presented by Larry and Judy Jones. Judy Jones was a 1965 graduate of Madrid-Waddington Central School.

• The George M. Dickson Memorial Scholarship of $200, established by Mr. George M. Dickson, went to Jennifer King, Katlyn Dominy, Liam Miller and Luke Miller.

• The June Kelley Pierce Award of $250 for the Most Talent in Art went to Ashley Furgison.

• Also given by June Kelly Pierce is The Bernard R. Pierce Memorial Scholarship of $250.00, is awarded to the student with the highest cumulative math average in the senior class, in honor of Mrs. Lucille Ruddy, who taught Mathematics for many years. That award went to Mary Young.

• Awarded in memory of John Murphy, class of 1985, $100 is given to this senior moving on to serve his country and displays a sense of duty, honor and country. That award went to Cole Donnelly.

• The Mary McGee Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $l,000 was awarded to a senior who has persevered and worked hard to accomplish the goals she has set for herself while in high school. That award went to Michael Thew.

• In memory of Daniel Parker Rose, the Rose Family and the members of the scholarship committee presented four awards of $1,000 each to Amelia Bailey, Kaleigh Field, Tyler Robinson and Cassidy Scott.

• The MWCS staff and faculty gave $100 scholarships to Autumn Beckstead and Sarah Naccari, who showed the dedication to achieve their goal and pursue a higher education degree.

• Four $100 awards made possible by the family of Dr. Brian Penrod in memory of their sons Brian and Jeff, went to Corrine McKnight, Liam Miller, Taylor Measheaw, and Dakotah Matthie.

• Two $100 awards went to Destini Allen and Baylee McMahon, who are pursuing a degree in the medical field. The awards were provided by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moore.

• A $100 Memorial Scholarship donated by Mrs. Laurinda Stockwell honoring the memory of her husband Kevin Stockwell who served his community for almost thirty years as an occupational therapist went to Kristin Liddle.

• The Pepsi-Cola Fine Arts Award of $50 went to Sophia Roome.

• The Key Club awarded a $500.00 scholarship to Katlyn Dominy who will attend college in the fall and has who has excelled in her academic program.

• The Darcie Ashley Scholarships of $100s presented by the Varsity Club went to Kaleigh Field and Bradon Vice.

• In honor of Jim and Winnie Fife, who exemplified the best things about living in the North Country, two $75 awards were given to Taylor Burleigh and Zachary Taylor.

• A $100 scholarship was granted by Lynn Roy in recognition of and on behalf of all MWCS instructional staff, to Amelia Bailey, who demonstrates a love of learning and intellectual curiosity and displays an ability to share this thirst for knowledge, problem solve and work with others.

• A $100.00 scholarship was granted by Lynn Roy in recognition of and on behalf of all MWCS non-instructional staff to Kevin Brassard who exemplifies a love of community, goes above and beyond in effort and work, and demonstrates a solid work ethic.

• Five NY State Troopers who are Madrid-Waddington Alumni offer three scholarships in the amount of $100 to worthy students who intend to pursue a college degree and future career in the Criminal Justice Field. The Madrid-Waddington Alumni are: Marc McDonnell, Randy LaMay, Scott Field, Clinton Johnson, David McBath, and Jordan LaMay. The recipients are Samantha Dugan, Ashley Furgison and Dia Mackay.

• In recognition of their outstanding achievements in their career and technical education program. An award of $100 each went to Dakotah Parmeter, Brandon Vice and Dylan Myers.

• A scholarship in the amount of $500 went to Kaylrnn Carkner in the memory of Edith Aumell Thompson, a registered nurse for over forty 40 years as well as a Nurse Administrator at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center.

• In memory of Cathy Simmons Sharpe, awards of $100 each went to Amelia Bailey and Harrison VanBuren.

• The Ogdensburg Pro Musica Chorus award of $50 went to Sophia Roome for participation in choral music in school and in the community.

• The Snider, Kyriakopoulos & Snider Law Firm presented award an award to Dia MacKay who is interested in government and plans to attend a four-year college in the fall:

• An award of $100 went to Katelyn Dominy from Mr. and Mrs. Carl P. Rose for pursuing a career in education

• In Memory of Neil Grasso, to a student with a keen sense of humor and the ability to always look on the bright side of life a $100 was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Carl P. Rose to Noah Pandit.

• The Capital District Off Track Betting Corporation awarded $250 to the Harrison VanBuren.

• The MWCS Class of 1965 offered a $50 scholarship to Brandon Vice.

• The Retired Faculty and staff of MWCS would offered a $100 scholarship to Taylor Burleigh.

• The Madrid American Legion Auxiliary Post #1513 presented a $50 award to two Jacob Desing and Cole Donnelly.

• A memorial scholarship in memory of Roger (Bucky) Taylor Jr. went to students who have demonstrated sincere family devotion, a strong worth ethic and outstanding loyalty to their friends. Three $100 awards went to Alyssa Norman, Zachary Taylor and Alvin Odendahl III.

• The Heuvelton Amvet Post 1997 offered a $100 award in memory of Ceylon Planty. The award went to Dia Mackay.

• CSEA Local 630 presented a $250 Workforce of Tomorrow award to Ashley Furgison.

• Michelle Bresett presented two graduating seniors who have completed five years of science (REGENTS Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and college Biology) and achieved the highest science GPA to Mary Young and Cassidy Scott.

54. NYS Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association provided a scholarship of $600 to Dia MacKay.

• The Nihanawate (Ni-han-a-wa-tey) Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution offered a certificate and Bronze Medal to the senior who had the highest average in US History. The awards went to Austin Lanning and Kirstin Liddell.

• Each year, the New York State Office of the Attorney General recognizes students who have been nominated by their school districts for the “Triple “C” Award”. The awards went to Katlyn Dominy and Brandon Vice.

• The Canton Goldenaires chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society granted a $500 scholarship to Cassidy Scott and $250 to Sophia Roome for their active involvement in music over the years.

• The New York Farm Bureau 2015 Agricultural Youth Scholarship went to Zachary Taylor.

• The SUNY Canton Alumni awarded $1000 to Ashley Furgison.

• Cassidy Scott and Mary Young were nominated to receive the 2015 Scholarship for Academic Excellence, based on their strong academic record and Regents exam results. The awards are distributed through the NY State Education Department and are renewable for up to four years of academic study.

• The Dr. Allen A. and Joan Taylor Welch Education Fund, a component fund of the Northern NY Community Foundation in Watertown, has created a new scholarship for Madrid-Waddington students. This fund was created by his wife, Joan, in memory of her late husband, Dr. Allen Welch. The awards went to Kristin Liddel, Michael Thew, Dia MacKay and Alyssa Norman.

• The American Red Cross Scholarship for $400 went to Zachary Taylor

• Hofstra University has awarded their Dean’s Scholarship to Willow VanPatten.

• A SUNY Plattsburgh Freshman Merit Scholarship in the amount of 4,000 went to Katlyn Dominy.

• Based on outstanding academic and personal achievements, St. Lawrence University recognized Sophia Roome with the Augsbury North Country Scholar Award in the amount of $27,000 per year.

• Mary Young received the $4,800 Rochester Institute of Technology Scholarship.

• The New York State Comptroller’s Achievement Award was presented to Jennifer King who has excelled academically and has also shown leadership potential by volunteering his or her time to serve the school or community.

• The CSEA St. Lawrence Educational Local 845 presented a scholarship of $500 to Kaleigh Field as a testament to hard work and dedication throughout her school years.

• The Fulton Chapter #515 Order of the Eastern Star awarded a scholarship to Kristin Liddel who has shown herself to relate well to others in the family, community and school.
