CANTON -- A Madrid man is charged with possessing crack and heroin following a police investigation March 24, according to Canton Police.
Jared R. Johnston, 27, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell after police found he possessed four grams of heroin and four grams of crack cocaine.
On Friday the Canton Police Department’s Drug Investigator received information regarding a vehicle carrying illegal drugs and traveling towards the village.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. a red Nissan Titan was observed traveling on Gouverneur Street and was stopped for a separate traffic violation at the intersection with West Main Street. Police did not disclose the cause of the violation.
Johnston who was a passenger in the vehicle was detained after he was observed attempting to reach into his waistband and ignoring commands from officers.
Johnston was found to have a plastic bag sticking out of his waistband. Police recovered the baggie that contained two foil packs.
One of the packs contained approximately four grams of crack cocaine. The second pack held approximately four grams of heroin.
Johnston was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a felony.
Johnston was arraigned in Canton Town Court and released to the supervision of the county probation department. The Canton Police Department were assisted by the New York State Police.
