MADRID -- The Madrid Fire Department recently purchased equipment using proceeds and donations from its 63rd annual turkey dinner on March 15.
The department purchased a Stihl MS461R Rescue Saw, a Stihl MS271 Chain Saw and six pairs of safety chaps.
The Stihl MS461R Rescue Saw is equipped with a special chain, depth limiter, handles, and a powerful engine to allow firefighters to use the saw for venting roofs of structures during fires.
It replaces a saw purchased in the early 1990’s, which is no longer serviceable.
The Stihl MS271 chain saw is not specialized but will aid firefighters in other tasks. The safety chaps provide for safety while using the saws in an environment where firefighters will not be wearing fire personal protective equipment such as assisting with storm related cleanup.
“We could not have made these purchases without the support of the public at our turkey dinner, local business donations, and other generous local donations,” Chief Ted Shulz said. “The officers and members of the Madrid Volunteer Department are very grateful for the continued support as we train and prepare to support the community in times of need.”
