MASSENA -- School lunch prices are going up by 10 cents to meet what the superintendent says is the cost of producing the meals.

For the upcoming school year, elementary paid lunches will cost $2.15, and the cost will be $2.25 at the high school.

“The increase is beyond the district’s control,” Superintendent Patrick Brady said. “Under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, there is a process by which districts are expected to raise their lunch prices for paid meals in order to reach the cost of production of those meals.”

Breakfast will remain at $1.20.

Reduced breakfast and lunch will be 25 cents each.

“We understand the challenge of paying for school meals, especially for families with more than one student in the district, this is a cost beyond out control and we continue to work to provide a high quality and nutritious meal program at the lowest cost possible,” Brady said.
