Lows of -18 in St. Lawrence County Monday not record-setting; temperatures now starting to moderate

Although temps were dangerously cold today, with a low of -18, it was not chilly enough to beat the record low in St. Lawrence County of -26 which took place in 1975, according to Weather Underground.

The forecast for tonight calls for mostly cloud skies and a low around 11 with south winds 6 to 8 miles per hour.

Temperatures then begin a warming trend from Tuesday through the rest of the work week westerly flow brings in a milder air mass, the National Weather Service says.

Tuesday will warm up to around 30 with wind chill values as low as zero. Winds will be south at 8 to 15 mph and gusts as high as 29 mph, the service says.

The next chance of precipitation will be towards the end of the week as occur by next Thursday as low pressure tracks through the Great Lakes into the northeast.

The forecast through Christmas is as follows:

Tuesday

Increasing clouds, with a high near 30. Wind chill values as low as zero. South wind 8 to 15 mph.

Tuesday Night

A 20 percent chance of snow showers after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Southwest wind 11 to 16 mph.

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Wednesday Night

A chance of snow showers between 11pm and 1am, then snow likely after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 28. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday

Snow likely before 1pm, then rain and snow likely between 1pm and 2pm, then snow likely after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Southeast wind around 7 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

A chance of snow before 1am, then a chance of snow showers after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 27. West wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
