POTSDAM -- North Country Matters, the local public affairs video magazine produced by WCKN at Clarkson University, took at look at one community’s response to the prescription opioid and heroin epidemic in a recent show.

Massena Mayor Tim Currier discussed Reframing the War on Drugs with NCM host Elizabeth Kirnie. They examine the opioid addiction problem through the lens of economics, treatment and a community-based approach rather than through law enforcement and the courts.

The NCM civic partners working to educate North Country residents about critical public policy issues facing our region include AAUW-St. Lawrence County, the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County and Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam Communication students, who provide the technical expertise and social media outreach for the production.

The shows are filmed at the WCKN studio on the Clarkson campus.

This fall’s shows will feature Conversations with Candidates, education shows with Potsdam Central administrators, North Country BOCES superintendents, the local 350.org and the new Green Dot program at SUNY Canton, among others.

In addition to local broadcasts, the shows are also available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXnsRt0cUL5YdjA8ScVG8cQ.
