Local Living Festival seeks public participation in Sept. 26 Canton event

CANTON -- A new campaign is kicking off this week to address the needs of the upcoming Local Living Festival, to be held in and around the Village Green Sept. 26.

The organizers have announced an Adirondack Gives campaign seeking public participation in reaching the goals of the Festival planners.

The festival is a celebration of rural and simple living skills, including topics as varied as gardening and farming, small-scale renewable energy, health and wellness, lost arts and forgotten skills. The Festival motto is "Serious Fun, Delightful Education" and the goals are to share ways to live more simply, economically and ecologically in the North Country, representatives said.

Coordinated by the Local Living Venture (LLV), in partnership with United Helpers and the Village of Canton Sustainability Committees, the event has already signed up over two dozen skills-based workshops, various exhibitors and demonstrators and two featured speakers, to help boost our overall capability as a community.

Hourly children's activities will also be featured, including a bicycle skills course. This is the fourth Festival in Canton since 2010, and the first time in the new downtown location.

Adirondack Gives is an online giving site brought to you by the Adirondack Foundation. The crowdfunding site connects local fundraising campaigns, such as the Local Living Festival, with people who want to help. In this case, festival organizers seek to raise $1,000 of the $10,300.00 basic budget for creating this community event.

Donations can be made at bit.ly/LocalLiving2015. As of early Aug. 10, $100 had been raised.

Adirondacks Gives is strictly for nonprofits organizations, public charities and other not-for-profit causes. For more information about the Foundation, or to ask a question about Adirondack Gives, email info@generousact.org or call 518-523-9904.
