Little River Community School in Canton holds graduation ceremony; first student to attend K-12 at school graduates

CANTON -- Little River Community School, 1227 County Route 25 held their graduation ceremony at the school May 9 with family, friends and the school community in attendance.

Gwen Smith, Nora Bradford, and Ellie Siegfried were in the graduating class this year.

Gwen Smith, the daughter of Jayson and Nancy Smith of Lisbon, has been with Little River since kindergarten and is the school's first student to have attended K-12. She graduated with a GPA of 3.39.

Ms. Smith traveled to Poland last summer to teacher English with the Lisbon Wesleyan Mission. She is a member of the Lisbon Wesleyan Church. In the fall she will be attending Kingswood University in New Brunswick to study for ministry work and will be learning to teach English as a second language. She enjoys writing, art, and music.

Nora Bradford, the daughter of Jane Garland and Dave Bradford of Potsdam, has attended Little River's four room school house for the past eight years. She graduated with a GPA of 3.11

Bradford has a special interest in physical therapy and took an anatomy class at UVM in Burlington last summer. This past year she took two classes at St. Lawrence University in the High School Enrichment Program. She has ridden horses for the past eleven years at Honey Dew Acres and has traveled several times to Europe. She will attend St. Lawrence University in the fall and is enrolled in the pre-med program.

Ellie Siegfried, the daughter of Susan Powers and Will Siegfried, has been with Little River since first grade. She is graduating with a GPA of 3.74.

Ms. Siegfried attended the Clarkson School for her senior year, working toward an applied mathematics major. Last year she spent six months in Denmark and attended the Gentofte Ungdomsskolen School, learning Danish. She plays piano and loves to canoe. In the fall she will attend Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, studying Liberal Arts with an emphasis on math and science.
