WADDINGTON – A Lisbon resident will serve as Grand Marshal of the 2015 St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament.

She’s a singer, a student, a baker, and now Lindsey Remington, 19, will serve as grand marshal.

The tournament takes place in the third week of August. Hosted by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce since its inception in 2003, this year the Chamber is officially partnering with the international Carp Anglers Group (CAG) to put on the contest.

In 2016, CAG will completely take the tournament reins.

Remington is the daughter of Dianna and Troy Remington of Lisbon, and participated in the annual fishing event for several years. In 2011, she brought in an award-winning, 27-pound, 3-ounce carp. Last year, the first since she “aged out” of the competition, she volunteered to be a marshal, and is volunteering again to be Grand Marshal.

Remington said carp fishing is still one of her favorite pastimes.

“I like the fight they put up,” she said, and the excitement “when the rod (alarm) goes off, and you feel that fish on the end of the line.” And the Junior Carp Tournament itself is “a great experience,” shared by friends new and old who meet during the three-day event.

The Paul Smith’s College student — going into her second year studying baking and pastry arts — was named an Adirondack Scholar with a 3.85 grade point average after her freshman year.

Remington is also a singer, performing in regional talent shows and competitions.

In 2013, her singing and love of fishing briefly came together when she was asked to perform the United States’ and Canada’s national anthems at that summer’s Bassmaster Elite Series event in Waddington. She’ll also sing at this year’s Evan Williams Bourbon Bassmaster Elite Series in Waddington, July 30 - August 2.

Registration for the tournament is now open.

The 2015 Junior Carp Tournament takes place August 20 - 22 and is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 18. The young anglers fish a roughly 30-mile stretch of the St. Lawrence from Massena to Ogdensburg, and vie for cash awards and prizes.

The entry fee remains the same as last year: $100 per angler. Contestants register to fish individually and may also register as part of a two- to four-person team. Parents or guardians can sign up to fish, too.

Registration covers participation in all tournament-related events during the three days, including a pre-tournament fishing school sponsored by Mort Backus & Sons. All carp caught during the tournament are returned live to the St. Lawrence River.
