Lisbon High sends 33 grads on their way

LISBON – Thirty-three students ended their high school careers and received their diplomas Friday at Lisbon High School.

Students who received diplomas were Joshua Adams, Katie Addison, Alexandria Amo, Connor Barney, Benjamin Chapple, Hunter Crary, Makayla Cruikshank, Brent Dean, Mikayla Deruchia, Donald Duprey, Ryan Ewart, Aneissa Fields, Alex Gravlin, Courtney Green, Emily Green, Olivia Henry, Arley Jerome, Devyn Johnston, Johnathan Kelley, Ashley Livingston, Cody Lovely, Kali Martin, Rileigh Mee, Brooke Oshier, Evan Robinson, Nathan Rudy, Tashauna Schofell, Kaitlyn Scinta, John Stevenson, Alexa Trimm, Tristan Vine, Dylan Ward and Jacob Ward.

Of those students, nine graduated with a grade point average of 90 or above. Thos students were Katie Addison, Mikayla Deruchia, Donald Duprey, Alexandria Amo, Tristan Vine, Makayla Cruikshank, Ashley Livingston, Hunter Crary and TaShauna Schofell.

Awards and scholarships presented at the ceremony included:

• Katie Addison, Hunter Crary, Alex Gravlin and Evan Robinson received $25 from, the American Legion Post 1342 Auxiliary.

• Hunter Crary and Evan Robinson received awards of $20 each from the American Legion Post 1342 Auxiliary.

• The Lisbon Central School Teacher’s Association awarded $200 to Makayla Cruickshank and Evan Robinson who are pursuing further education.

• Tristan Vine received a $200 scholarship from the Lisbon Teachers’ Association.

• Border Crossing Kennels presented $200 to Kali Martin who is pursuing an education as a Dental Hygienist.

• The Elwin Scott Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was presented to Donald Duprey and Evan Robinson who are entering a 4-year degree programs.

• The Ogdensburg Zonta Club presented $500 to Ashley Livingston and Evan Robinson who have demonstrated character, leadership, service to the community and school and the desire to succeed.

• The Ogdensburg Zonta Club presented the $300 Young Women in Public Affairs Award to TaShauna Schofell

• The Lisbon Central School employees presented awards of $200 to Alexandria Amo, Courtney Green, Jonathan Kelley and Tristan Vine, who have demonstrated school service, positive attitude, willingness to help staff and peers and exemplify self-improvement.

• The $100 Elmer and Elizabeth Akins Memorial Scholarship was presented to Evan Robinson in memory of Elmer Akins, and his wife Elizabeth

• The $50 Pepsi Cola Fine Arts Award was given to Ryan Ewart who excels in areas of music, drama, public speaking, and/or art.

• The American Legion Post #1342 presented two $40 awards Ashley Livingston and John Stevenson who are considered outstanding citizens by the members of the high school faculty.

• The Ogdensburg Rotary Club presented $500 to Tristin Vine.

• The Nichole Davis went through life with the daily challenge of Cystic Fibrosis, but was always able to wear a smile on her face. Before she died in September of 2007, she impacted many people in a positive way through her appreciation for life. Everyone who met her felt blessed. This scholarship is in honor of Nichole and her belief that “her dreams were endless because her wings could take her anywhere.” This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will help continue her dream. The Nichole Davis Scholarship was presented to Makayla Cruikshank.

• A $500 scholarship was awarded to Evan Robinson in honor of John “Jack” Cardinal who taught high school science.

• A $100 was presented to TaShauna Schofell by Mort Backus and Sons – Backus Family, Gray’s Gun Shop – Scott Gray and Martin Feed, Inc. – Blake & Judy Martin.

• The Helen S. Randles/Society of the United Helpers Scholarship in the amount of $750 was presented Tristan Vine.

• The Ogdensburg Kiwanis presents an award of $250 to Mikayla Deruchia for service to the community. Deruchia has been involved in community service through Student Government, National Honor Society and other clubs.

• The 2015 Merit Awards for academic excellence were presented to Katie Addison ($1500) and Tristan Vine ($500).

• The American Legion Post 1342 and Auxiliary presented scholarships of $100 to Donald Duprey, Ashley Livingston, Evan Robinson, Nathan Rudy, John Stevenson and Tristan Vine.

• The Capital District Off Track Betting Corporation presented $250 to Courtney Green.

• The Keturah May Putney Memorial Scholarship of $250 wen to Johnathan Kelley.

• The Charles M. Moore Memorial scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Mikayla Deruchia.

• An anonymous contributor gave a $1,000 scholarship in honor of Bernice F. Moore, Valedictorian of the Lisbon Central Class of 1936. The scholarship which was awarded to 2015 Valedictorian Katie Addison.

• An anonymous contributor gave a $500 scholarship in memory of Stephen Ward Moore who was Valedictorian of the Class of 1960. The scholarship is being awarded to the Salutatorian of the Class of 2015 Mikayla Deruchia.

• The Youth Involvement Award was presented to Aneissa Fields and Tristan Vine.

• Northwest Technical Center awarded Emily Green, Arley Jerome, Johnathan Kelley and Ashley Livingston with 2015 Achievement Award certificates and $50 each.

• Two $250 scholarships were given to Evan Robinson and Tristan Vine in memory of Sister Joan, Pastoral Delegate of Saints Philip and James Parish of Lisbon.

• Donald Duprey received $1,000 from the Thompson-Weatherup Family Charitable Foundation headquartered in Canton. The family has a continuing interest in Lisbon Central School from which all ten of their children graduated.

• Bruce Green presented a $75 scholarship to a senior who has shown perseverance to graduate. The recipient of this award is Arley Jerome.

• Bruce Green would like to present a $75 scholarship to Alexandria Amo who is continuing her education in the Business field.

• Jack W. Gray… a life lived to the fullest, but all too short. He loved God, his family, his friends, and his country: serving proudly in Vietnam as a United States Marine. He was a partner in Gray’s Gun Shop and thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and bird watching, but did all with respect for nature. He was an avid sports fan, & belonged to several organizations, having served as an officer of the St. Lawrence County Trappers Association. Jack, a 1964 LCS graduate and member of the 1964 LCS Championship Basketball Team, will be remembered most for his sense of humor, his laugh, and his big heart. The Jack Gray Memorial scholarship in the amount of $250 went to Evan Robinson

• At the time of her death, Mrs. Irene M. Feld established, through a trust fund the Irene M. Feld and Letitia Morris Clark Scholarship, also known as the Twin Sisters Scholarship, for graduating seniors at Lisbon Central School. The scholarship of $1,030 was presented to Rileigh Mee

• The family of Mort & Marie Backus awarded $250 to Donald Duprey and Courney Green who have participated in athletics throughout their high school years, portray strong sportsmanship qualities, are role-models and leaders both on and off the playing field, and plan to further their education. Mort & Marie were strong supporters of Lisbon Central School and its various athletic teams for decades.

• The Claxton Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary presented Katie Addison a scholarship of $1000.

• Tammy Amo at The Cutting Edge Salon presents a scholarship of $100 to Alexandria Amo.

• A scholarship award of $100 was presented by Tammy Amo and Amy Spooner, owners of Small Fry Academy preschool to Courtney Green.

• The Heuvelton Knights of Columbus James “Jim” Doerr Memorial Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Tristan Vine.

• New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Associations, Inc. presented $600 scholarships to Aneissa Fields, Kali Martin and John Stevenson.

• The Lisbon Volunteer Fire awarded two $200 scholarships to Ashley Livingston and Tristan Vine.

• The Athletic Department presented $25 Alexandria Amo, Aneissa Fields, Courtney Green, Kali Martin, Rileigh Mee, Brooke Oshier, Kaitlyn Scinta, Donald Duprey. Alex Gravlin, Evan Robinson and Tristan Vine.

• The parents of Melissa Ladouceur, Richard & Anna Ladouceur, presented a $50 scholarship to Ryan Ewart.

• Lisbon Lion’s Club presented the Susan M. Feldt Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $200 to Courtney Green, Ashley Livingston and Tristan Vine.

• The Frank Martin Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $250 was awarded to Johnathan Kelley This award is presented to a student who has carried on Frank’s positive example.

• Ms. Jennifer Grant presented an award in the amount of $50 to Brooke Oshier who is pursuing a career in pharmacy

• The Independent Order of Odd Fellow Seaway Lodge #41 in Ogdensburg awarded a scholarship of $500 to Makayla Cruickshank.

• Lynette Pitcher Thompson of the LP Thompson Insurance Agency presented an award of $100 Ashley Livingston.

• A scholarship of $100 was presented TaShauana Schofell who has been involved in visual art classes.

• The Victor P. Novosel Memorial Award was presented to Nathan Randy who is pursuing additional education in a trade. Victor Novosel was a sophomore at Lisbon Central School at the time of his tragic death in 2014. Victor loved science and had enrolled in the welding program at Northwest Technical Center for the coming school year. He was an artistic and creative young man who enjoyed archery, shooting airsoft guns, snowboarding, Little Ponies, hiking, playing on the Internet and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, chocolate milk, hot sauce and his kindness to animals. Victor fully intended to pursue a welding certification and CDL license to ultimately become a truck driver. Thus, the family and friends of Victor P. Novosel have established this scholarship award in his memory for a student pursuing education in a trade.

• A $150 scholarship in memory of James Martin was awarded to Alexa trim.

• The American Red Cross presented a $400 scholarship Ashley Livingston.

• Fulton Chapter #515 Order of the Eastern Star offered a $250 Scholarship Courtney Green.

• A $50 scholarship was awarded Aneissa Fields, a senior, who is the child of a Riverview Correctional Facility employee.

• The Brad Winters ’99 Scholarship of $500 was awarded to Ashley Livingston who is attending Canton College next year.
