POTSDAM -- A Lisbon couple is facing charges after allegedly vacating a rental property and abandoning animals, as well as leaving other dead animals behind.
Joshua L.A. Brothers, 25, of 26 Moran Road, Lisbon is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, felony, and failure to provide proper shelter for dogs left outdoors, a violation, deputies said.
Patricia L. Brothers, 24, same address, is charged with abandonment of animals and failure to provide proper food and drink to an animal, both misdemeanors, deputies said.
Deputies say their investigation began July 17 after the Brothers’s former landlord reported they vacated his property at 521 Douglas Road, Potsdam, without notice.
The landlord told police he discovered three dead dogs and three dead rabbits.
They abandoned two cats and a hamster that were left without food or fresh water, deputies said.
Animal control officers Jim McConkley and Becki Barlow retrieved the cats and hamster and brought them to the Potsdam Humane Society for treatment, deputies said.
Both suspects were released with appearance tickets for Potsdam Town Court on Aug. 11 at noon, deputies said.
