CANTON -- A new licensed social worker has opened a practice in counseling and psychotherapy in Canton.
Dave Nelson has opened North Country Community Counseling Services, located in the Tallman building on route 11, offering mental health services for individuals and families.
Nelson will specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depression, relationship counseling, family transitions, self-esteem, stress, substance abuse, and grief counseling.
Nelson will also offer group workshops focused on communication between teens and parents.
Nelson is a clinical social worker licensed in New York.
He has worked since 2005 at St. Lawrence County Community Services as a psychiatric social worker. He previously worked in Washington, DC, with youth and foster care children. He also spent time in Providence, RI, managing a transitional living facility for adolescent sex offenders.
Nelson has taught psychology at Clarkson University and SUNY Canton.
North Country Community Counseling Services will work cooperatively with physicians, psychiatrists, and schools as needed by patients.
