CANTON -- St. Lawrence County has named a new director of public health after the position was remained vacant for nearly a year.
James O. Rich will be paid a salary of $78,000 as the department’s new director beginning July 13. The seat was vacated by Dr. Susan Hathaway who retired in 2013 after serving four years in the position.
Lorraine Kourofsky, who was the former Franklin County public health director, then filled it temporarily. Later, Christopher Boulio ran the department, who was the director of human resources for the county.
Rich’s salary is expected to increase three steps after six months in the position.
