The annual Tri-Town Festival returns Aug. 7-9 with a variety of new and classic events, games and fireworks

This year the Tri-Town Festival committee’s theme for the event is “Back to the Stone Age.” There will be a parade, fireworks, a carnival, life-size “Hungry, Hungry Hippos” and fishing contests and an eating contest and more.

Today, Friday, Aug. 7, kicks of with a sidewalk art contest from the rescue squad to the Pit Stop diner. The contest runs through 6 p.m.

Draw your best Stone Age themed artwork wish washable sidewalk art. Ages 1 to 100 are welcome to participate. Write your name and age on drawing for judging. Winning ribbons will be available at the carnival Saturday.

A juggling show and more is planned at 10 a.m. at Badenhausen Library. There will be music, magic, storytelling, and juggling.

At 11:30 a.m. a family picnic sponsored by the Quad-Town Lions Club will be held behind the library. An ice cream social will be held from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at LBSH.

The 10th annual Lowell Kelsey Memorial Radio Control Model Airplane Demonstration will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kelsey's Aerodrome. Bring a lawn chair to the corner of Pickle Street and CR47. Call Harry at 389-4113 for more information.

Enjoy wine slushies from High Peaks Winery on Pickle Street from 1 to 3 p.m. Must be 21 and over to enjoy.

A "Minute To Win It" will take place inside the arena at 5 p.m. Registration begins at 4:45 p.m. Child and adult teams of two are encouraged to play. Contact Kristy at 208-4030 for info.

The Class of 1975 will host a reunion at 7 p.m. at the American Legion.

Get free ice cream courtesy of Massena Memorial Hospital at 8 p.m. at the bus garage while supplies last. There will also be live music, concessions, and t-shirt sales going on. Chris and Matt Whalen will be performing.

Fireworks will be held at dusk.

Saturday, August 8th

A "Christmas in August" 5K to support local charities and families will begin at 8 a.m. in the arena parking lot. Wear holiday attire. Prizes will be awarded). The cost is a donation of $5 or more.

Find out which frog can jump the farthest at 9 a.m. inside the arena. Bring your own frog. No glass containers. Contact Kayla at 250-3659 for more information.

Parade participants will line up at 10 a.m. at the St. Lawrence County Elementary School.

At 11 a.m. the "Back to the Stone Age" parade runs from through downtown and ends at Agway. There will be live music during the parade. The top five floats will win cash prizes. Call Chris at 261-2809 or Sarah at 842-2613 to register.

From noon until 3 p.m. at the arena ball fields there will be a carnival of games, a bouncy house and slide, face painting, and more. The cost is $5 for 20 tickets and there will be a fee for unlimited rides.

Enjoy wine slushies from High Peaks Winery from 1 to 5 p.m.

Primabella's Youth Eating Contest will be held at 2 p.m. at Primabella's. Kids 6 years and younger will eat ice cream; ages 7-13 will compete in eating pizza and ages 14-17 will also eat pizza. Kids must register by noon to reserve a spot. Info: 389-4222

A blindfold bicycle rally will be held inside the arena at 2 p.m. Youths and adults are welcome. The event is sponsored by Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce.

At 3 p.m. there will be a duck/turtle race behind the arena. The cost is $5 per turtle or duck and proceeds benefit Tri-Town Minor Hockey. There will be lots of prizes. Call 705-4437 for info.

From 3 to 5 p.m. there will be a wine tasting (Spirits of Downtown) Must be 21 years and older.

Live music will fill the air from 3 to 5 p.m. from the Tri-Town Entertainers at Crasper Hall Porch.

"Hungry, Hungry Hippos" will be held at the arena ball field. Come play life-size Hungry Hippos like they would have in the Stone Age. Ages 14 and up. Call Courtney to register a team of two at 212-2939.

Live music and a BBQ will take place at the Riverview at 4 p.m. Divided Roads will entertain from 4 until 8 p.m. The buffet-style BBQ will be available all day.

At 5 p.m. the Brasher-Winthrop Fire Department will serve a steak dinner.

The 7th annual Cory Jock Home Run Derby will played at the arena at 7 p.m. Hit a home run under the lights. No age limits; boys and girls are welcome. Each batter will receive five good pitches. The cost is $5 for adults. Proceeds benefit St. Lawrence Central baseball.

“Human Foosball” is scheduled for 9 p.m. at the Riverview Deck. Sign teams of six up at the Riverview bar by 8:45 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 9, there will be fishing derby from 10 until 11 a.m. at Tower Pond U.S. Highway 11. The derby is free fishing anyone age 15 and under. No lures allowed. Must catch and release.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a chicken BBQ at the North Lawrence Fire Department. Info: 212-7794.

At 11:30 a.m. a chicken dinner will be served at the Knights of Columbus. The meal includes a half chicken, macaroni salad, potato salad, cabbage salad, baked beans, and pudding. Adult meals cost $10, ages 6-12 years old cost $7, and under age five eat free. Call 389-5492 for takeout.

The St. Lawrence Central lacrosse alumni game at the school practice field over hill will be held at 1 p.m. Contact Bryan at 323-7182 for details.

Lawnmower races will be held near the North Lawrence playground at 1 p.m. Contact 212-7794 to register.
