OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council may seek help from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency to assist with asbestos removal at the former St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
City council Monday will likely approve a resolution allowing City Manager John Pinkerton to apply for the funding on the city’s behalf.
Ogdensburg is currently seeking a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for cleanup of the former nursing home in hopes of spurring economic development by making the building more marketable.
Engineering estimates have suggested cleanup would cost roughly $250,000.
Ogdensburg officials are hoping to secure a $50,000 grant from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency to offset the remainder of the cost.
Council will discuss the resolution Monday at City Hall. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
