POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam will celebrate a milestone Friday with a topping-off ceremony in the construction of its $48 million Performing Arts Building.
Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members will commemorate the moment by signing their names on one of the last steel beams to be placed.
People can check the progress on the Performing Arts Center via the live PAB webcam at http://pabcam.potsdam.edu.
The beam signing is set for the afternoon at the construction site, with a brief ceremony and photos.
It was just a year ago that dignitaries were on campus for the groundbreaking. Politicians, college and community leaders, and a total of about 100 people were there to help get he building started.
The new building will have 97,000 square feet of theater and dance space, supporting the college's Department of Theatre and Dance.
SUNY Potsdam estimates that the new building will provide an estimated $128 million in economic activity and create 344 jobs in the North Country during construction.
This is the first new academic building at SUNY Potsdam since 1973.
