The National Weather Service has posted a hazardous weather outlook and a lake effect snow advisory for southern St. Lawrence County which will be in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Accumulations of 1 to 4 inches of snow are expected, the higher end of the scale being in the Star Lake-Cranberry Lake area.

The NWS says snow could be heavy from time to town, and warns of poor visibilities and difficult driving conditions.

The weather seems to be settling into conditions more characteristic of winter than we have had so far.

And the typical west to southwest winds driving precipitation to the east of Lake Ontario is occurring now.

Highs today will reach into the mid-30s, and lows tonight will be tween 15 and 20 degrees. The snowfall will continue tonight, and will be a bit longer-lasting in the south of the county.

For the rest of the weekend and into Monday, mostly clear skies will prevail with highs around freezing and lows 15 to 20 degrees.

The forecast is calling for some clear skies and some cloudy periods through next Thursday, with the chance of snow at about 40 percent Tuesday night and Wednesday.
