CANTON -- The village board is expected to appoint municipal planning board member Klaus Proemm to the trustee seat left vacant by the departure of former trustee Dwight Stevenson last month.
The board was expected to act on the issue at their meeting Sept. 25, however, Proemm asked that the appointment be delayed a month so he could finish work on a project with the planning board.
Proemm did recommend that resident Jessica Prody be appointed to take over his seat on the planning board once he becomes trustee. The village board accepted Proemm’s recommendation, with trustee Sean O’Brien stating that he knew Prody was interested in the position.
Once appointed to the village board seat, Proemm will fill out former trustee Stevenson’s remaining term until the village’s annual meeting in December.
Proemm is already currently running unopposed in the general election for the remaining portion of Stevenson’s term starting in December. The town and village’s Democratic Party last week during their annual caucus nominated Proemm unanimously as their candidate for the seat.
Stevenson, a teacher, resigned from the village board to pursue an employment opportunity with the Saranac Lake school district.
