POTSDAM – The village Board of Trustees today appointed Kevin A. Bates as the new Potsdam Police Department's chief of police, effective March 31.
Bates now serves as a sergeant with the department. He has been a member of the department for 17 years.
The board, at a special meeting, noted that they interviewed three candidates from within the police department, all considered excellent by the interviewing panel.
Sgt. Bates will be replacing Chief Edward Tischler, who is retiring after serving on the force for 21 years.
