MACOMB -- A Calcium man reported missing Sunday on Pleasant Lake was found dead Monday morning by divers who had been searching for him.
State police responded at 7:30 p.m. Sunday to the North Shore Road after receiving a report that Julian D. Harris, 24, had been kayaking on the lake and was missing.
Gouverneur Fire and Rescue, Brier Hill Rescue, and divers from the City of Ogdensburg Fire Department responded to assist with search efforts, but at about 11 p.m., the search was suspended for the night.
Monday morning at about 9:15 a.m., once the search had resumed, divers found Harris’s body in about 20 feet of water about 400 feet from shore, state police said.
St. Lawrence County Coroner Kevin Crosby ordered the body removed to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for an autopsy, which was performed today by Dr. Samuel Livingstone.
Livingstone determined the cause of death to be asphyxia due to cold water drowning. Crosby determined the manner of death to be accidental.
There was no word on whether the kayak has been retrieved.
