COLTON -- Adirondack Canoe & Kayak Co., a new rental business at 74 St. Rt. 68, is in operation.

It is owned and run by Joe and Katie LaShomb.

The business opened this spring to provide kayaks and canoes to people visiting the area on vacation, campers at the area campgrounds, and for individuals and families to try a new outdoor adventure.

“Not everybody has a motorboat,” said Katie LaShomb, “so this is another way to enjoy the Raquette River.”

“We just started kayaking a couple of years ago with our daughters, and we found it very relaxing,” she said.

“We thought it would be nice if a family could try it out on vacation and not have to travel with a boat.”

Hourly, daily, weekend, and weekly rates are available along with delivery service and group discounts and specials.

“We will deliver as far as Hannawa Falls, South Colton, Parishville – perhaps farther. We want to be able to meet people’s needs.”

Their rentals include associated gear such as paddles and life jackets.

“Eventually we would like to get more into outfitting,” LaShomb said.

The LaShombs, both from Potsdam, also own and run Adirondack Deck and Dock.
