COLTON -- State police have made an arrest in the Colton Library vandalism.
On Saturday, troopers charged a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old with one misdemeanor count each of fourth-degree criminal mischief and reckless endangerment of property.
They were released with appearance tickets for St. Lawrence County Family Court, troopers said.
Investigators declined to identify the suspects because they are juveniles.
The two are accused of taking a garden hose, putting it in the library’s fuel oil tank and turning it on. Library Director Dennis Eickhoff said there was about 400 gallons of fuel in the tank and the meter showed about 9,500 gallons of water had been released.
It caused the library to close and prompted a DEC investigation for potential contamination in the groundwater and nearby Raquette River.
