Incumbent Republicans Tuesday won both the 118th state Assembly race, which includes central St. Lawrence County, and the 115th state Assembly race, which covers four St. Lawrence County towns.
118th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
Incumbent Republican Marc W. Butler of Newport easily beat Democratic challenger Joseph Chilelli of Herkimer for the 118th state Assembly District seat. Butler received 29,407 votes, compared with 13,587 for Chilelli.
The district includes Madrid, Norfolk, Stockholm, Parishville, Pierrepont, Clare, Colton, Clifton and Fine in St. Lawrence County plus Hamilton, Herkimer and Fulton counties and part of Oneida County.
Butler led in all counties, but was closest in St. Lawrence County. In Herkimer and Fulton counties, he received more than two times as many votes as Chilelli.
The breakdown by county:
• St. Lawrence -- Butler 2,914, Chilelli 2,699
• Manilton -- Butler 1,748, Chilelli 647
• Herkimer -- Butler 7,268, Chilelli 2,965
• Fulton -- Butler 11,738, Chilelli 4,555
• Oneida -- Butler 5,739, Chilelli 2,721
115th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
Incumbent Republican Janet L. Duprey of Peru won a three-way race for state Assembly 115th District. The district includes Brasher, Hopkinton, Lawrence and Piercefield in St. Lawrence County plus Franklin and Clinton counties.
Duprey received 22,126 votes, compared to Democrat Timothy R. Carpenter of Plattsburgh with 10,729 and Conservative Karen M. Bisso of Plattsburgh with 8,979. Duprey led in all counties, but the race was closest in St. Lawrence County.
The breakdown by county:
• St. Lawrence -- Duprey 718, Carpenter 507, Bisso 352
• Franklin -- Duprey 13,076, Carpenter 6,873, Bisso 6,583
• Clinton -- Duprey 8,332, Carpenter 3,349, Bisso 2,044
116th & 117th ASSEMBLY DISTRICTS
In both the 116th and 117th Assembly districts, the incumbents faced no opponents this year.
Democrat Addie Jennie Russell of Theresa had no challenger for her Assembly seat in the 116th, also known as the River District. The district includes all St. Lawrence County towns along the St. Lawrence Seaway plus Canton, Potsdam, Rossie, Macomb and DePeyster, along with northern Jefferson County
Republican Ken Blankenbush, Black River, faced no Democratic opponent in the 117th, which includes the St. Lawrence County towns of DeKalb, Gouverneur, Hermon, Russell, Edwards, Fowler and Pitcairn plus Lewis County, southeast Jefferson County and parts of Oneida County
