Massena's Judge Nicandri appointed to second term on New York Power Authority board

MASSENA – Judge Eugene Nicandri, Massena, will serve another term on the New York Power Authority Board of Trustees, according to a NYPA release.

During his nearly five years as a trustee, Judge Nicandri has been at the center of key NYPA decision making.

Judge Nicandri is a long-time resident of Massena, the home of the St. Lawrence-FDR Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The low-cost power generated at in Massena is indispensable to Alcoa aluminum production in northern New York and economic development in the region.

He also worked closely on the relicensing agreement, which established the St. Lawrence River Valley Development Agency and provided $16 million and 20 megawatts of power to spur economic development in the North Country.

Judge Nicandri has worked on major endeavors under Gov. Cuomo to modernize and upgrade the state’s electricity infrastructure, protect and create jobs through allocations of lower cost electricity to businesses and other enterprises, and bring about investments in energy efficiency and clean energy technologies, the release said.

Judge Nicandri's new term is five years.
