EDWARDS -- A road safety check point led to the arrest of a man found to be in possession of 190 packets of heroin, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said.
Robert W. Deacon, 29, was held without bail and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
Deputies said a K9 alerted authorities to the drugs after the vehicle was stopped at a "joint agency road safety check point" on County Route 24.
Deacon was sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility without bail.
New York State Police, Canton Village Police, Gouverneur Village Police and Ogdensburg City Police assisted in the operation.
