POTSDAM -- North Country Matters, the local public affairs video magazine produced by WCKN at Clarkson University, takes a look at education issues with Steve Todd, the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Superintendent.

NCM hosts Ann Carvill and Donna Seymour discuss 2016 education matters in his 18 component schools covering a new solar power initiative that BOCES is heading up for several North Country schools and municipalities across four counties. The projected energy savings will save millions of dollars.

They also take a look at student attendance that BOCES is helping to meet for non-traditional students via new career and technical project-based learning opportunities. They also discuss the status of the state’s Learning Standards and testing, the prospects for school finances in 2017, and mental health services that can be accessed through BOCES.

The YouTube link for this show is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYopVhGfZwM. Mr. Todd has been a guest on NCM several times. His previous conversations are also available on YouTube.

The NCM civic partners working to educate North Country residents about critical public policy issues facing our region include AAUW-St. Lawrence County, the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County, and Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam Communication students. The shows are filmed at the WCKN studio on the Clarkson campus.
