CANTON -- The International Student Exchange is in need of families in St. Lawrence County willing to host one of the 11 foreign exchange students for 10 months.
Currently the students looking for families are from Columbia, Slovakia, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Thailand and China. Each student comes fully insured, and with their own spending money; which covers their cell phone bill, medical needs, activities, school lunches, clothing, and other expenses.
Parents need to be their parent, set chores, and make sure house rules are followed and provide a place to sleep and study along with meals when not at school.
Becoming a host family includes an online application and a home visit. The approval can happen within 24 hours.
