CANTON -- Alexander Lyapin, MD, an internal medicine specialist, recently joined Canton-Potsdam Hospital and is providing adult primary care to patients from his office at 190 Outer Main Street, Potsdam.
Internal medicine, sometimes referred to as adult medicine, is considered primary care. It is concerned with diagnosis and treatment of many illnesses and conditions as well as health maintenance. According to Dr. Lyapin, primary care for adults should begin in the early 20’s. This gives the patient and practitioner a baseline picture of health from which to measure significant changes throughout the life course.
Dr. Lyapin completed his medical training in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of Lugansk and fulfilled internships in general surgery at Lugansk City Hospital and in internal medicine at Sourasky Medical Center, Tel Aviv. Then he gained experience in the specialty of Cardiology as a Mobile Intensive Care Unit Physician. He subsequently completed Residency in Internal Medicine in Texas Tech University Health Science center. Being fluent in six languages, including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, and Ukrainian, Dr. Lyapin welcomes individuals among all ethnic cultures and diversities.
“It’s important for my patients to understand their healthcare and how influential they can be to their own good health. As a team, I will help them establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Lyapin. “I am very excited to be sharing my passion for healthcare with friends of Canton-Potsdam Hospital and my wife and I look forward to raising our family in the beautiful North Country.”
At the present time, Dr. Lyapin joins colleagues Dr. Flos Piit (family practice) and Dr. Scott Spicer (pediatrician) on Outer Main Street. Upon the completion of the medical campus expansion at 49 Lawrence Avenue, Drs. Lyapin and Piit will be housed in the Primary Care suite of that facility. Individuals interested in making an appointment with Dr. Lyapin may call his office at 265-9271.
