CANTON – A St. Lawrence County inmate was charged Friday with possessing illegal contraband, St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies said.

Justin J. LaFleur, formerly of Massena, was charged with possessing matches and a partial Suboxone pill. Correctional officers discovered the items during a search.

Suboxone is a controlled narcotic used to treat opium-based drug addictions.

LaFleur was being held on a parole violation for a previous burglary conviction and now faces charges for promoting prison contraband.

He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

He was held on $2,500 cash bail.
