POTSDAM — A Potsdam man died this past weekend from injuries sustained Sept. 14 when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on State Highway 11B, according to state police.

Troopers responded to an accident shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 14, an investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Irving I. Richards, 66, Potsdam, was traveling east on SH 11B when a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Jordan P. Sochia, 25 of Potsdam, struck the rear of the truck, troopers said.

Potsdam Rescue Ambulance transported Sochia to the Potsdam Airport where he was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment of a fractured pelvis, officers said.

Irving Richards and his passenger, Raymond C. Richards, 65, Norwood, were not injured, police said.

Sochia died Sept. 21 following his injuries sustained during the accident.

This crash remains under investigation, troopers said.

New York State DEC Spill response responded as there was approximately 30 gallons of fuel that leaked from the Richards vehicle.

Potsdam Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. State Highway 11B was shut down and reopened about three hours later.
