POTSDAM -- Adults with or without musical experience are welcome to attend a meeting to get information about the New Horizons Band of Northern New York at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 in the Potsdam Civic Center’s Community Room.

The band is aimed at adults who wish to learn to play a concert band instrument, such as a trombone, saxophone, flute, etc., and to play in a band.

Ron Berry, founder, is conductor. The band grew out of the New Horizons International Music Association, founded in 1991 at the Eastman School of Music, and partners with SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music and Northern Music and Video.

The band made a number of public performances last year, at Canton Central School in conjunction with the 7and 8 grade band, at Ives Park during Summer Festival, at Ogdensburg’s Seaway Festival, and at South Colton’s ice cream social. They also traveled to Ottawa to play with their New Horizons Band.

All rehearsals are weekdays, so the band consists mainly of, but is not limited to, retirees.

They also welcome home-school students.
