Up to an inch of rain possible today as thunderstorms and showers hit St. Lawrence County

Heavy rain today in St. Lawrence County will be followed by patchy fog and additional rain this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Gusts of wind as high as 25 mph are also expected and new rainfall amounts as high as one inch are possible.

On Tuesday widespread morning showers gradually move east and fade away. Plenty of clouds should be the rule most of the day, though some partial sunshine will be possible by later in the afternoon.

Temperatures remain on the cool side in the 60s, possibly touching the 70-degree mark in the St. Lawrence Valley where partial sun may arrive a bit earlier than other areas.

A seven-day forecast follows:

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 63. Northeast wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tonight: Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then showers likely. Patchy fog. Low around 58. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Northeast wind around 10 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. Calm wind.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 7 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a chance of showers between 8pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 76. North wind 6 to 8 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. North wind around 6 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. North wind around 7 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
