MASSENA -- The Massena Boys and Girls Club will get long-awaited funding to assist in moving to and renovating their clubhouse on Bayley Road.
The St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency on Wednesday approved a $155,000 loan to the club.
The facility is in the former St. Joseph’s School. The club bought it in December 2013 for $125,000 with a $20,000 down payment raised through donations.
“The SLC IDA –CDC bridge loan ensures that we can build upon and maintain a healthy fund balance, which is required in order for the Boys & Girls Club to obtain Charter status from National. This is a significant step forward for our organization,” said Tim Currier, president of the Boys and Girls Club of Massena Board of Directors.
At the time of the purchase, Currier said the center will include a homework room, a room specifically for teens, play area, multi-purpose art room and “lots of space left over to identify other programs and needs.”
