SOUTH COLTON – While the current warm weather snap may make the sap flow for area maple producers, the tip-ups may be staying in the shed for the rest of the season.

Due to weather conditions, the annual ice fishing derby hosted by the Racquette Valley Fish and Game Club, 233 Cold Brook Dr., that was scheduled for Feb. 25 has been canceled.

No reschedule date has been slated at this point.

For more information about the Racquette Valley club, call 315-262-2447.

Unseasonably warm temperatures this winter have lead to thin ice in much of the region, and an early thaw on the lakes and rivers of the county.

The St. Lawrence River Walleye Association in Waddington has canceled its Northern Pike Challenge for the second consecutive year due to the weather.

The Challenge was originally scheduled to take place this weekend as well, and was considered the Association’s largest fundraiser. Money raised from the event has traditionally been used to pay for stocking the St. Lawrence River with walleye.
