The Northern Corridor Transportation Group has named county legislator Tony Arquiett as Chair of the not-for-profit corporation seeking to bring a four-lane highway to the North Country.

Arquiett also serves as the Chair of the North Country Redevelopment Taskforce, which was organized following the closure of the General Motors Powertrain facility, is a past President of the United Auto Workers Local 465, and represents residents of Brasher, Lawrence and Massena in the St. Lawrence County Legislature.

“The development of improved infrastructure facilities such as the four-lane Canton-Potsdam bypass is of paramount importance to economic development and job creation in St. Lawrence County,” said Arquiett, “I hope to add to the successes accomplished over the recent years and finally put shovels in the ground.”

“Arquiett has a wealth of experience in advocating for employment and job creation needs in the North Country,” said Wade Davis former Chairman of the organization, “Tony’s leadership will help take the organization to the next level and I fully support him in his new role.”

The Northern Corridor Transportation Group is the primary advocacy organization working to develop transportation alternatives in the North Country that will help spur economic growth.

The organization supports the development of the Interstate 98 corridor and the four-lane Canton-Potsdam bypass because of their job creation potential.
