As fall approaches the Department of Environmental Conservation has posted safety courses for bow and hunter education.

Hunter Safety Courses

• WINTHROP -- Sept. 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Camp Mandaville, 165 Sheldon Road. This home study course requires five or more hours of homework before the field session. Instruction is by David Hannon. Pre-registration is required in person at the Hopkinton Town Clerk's Office, Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays between 9:30 a.m. and noon or between 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• GOUVERNEUR -- Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mullins Restaurant, Route 11, Gouverneur. Instruction is by Bobbi Bigelow. Pre-registration is required. Call 287-9398.

• EDWARDS -- Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Edwards Fire Hall. This home study course requires five or more hours of homework before the field session. Instruction is by Herb Moore. Registration is required in person at the Russell Town Clerk's office between Aug. 19 and Aug. 30.

• STAR LAKE -- Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Star Lake Community Center, 4208 State Route 3. Instruction is by Bob Tebo. Pre-registration is required by calling 848-3490.

• LAWRENCEVILLE -- Aug. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lawrenceville Fire Department, County Route 54. Instruction is by Jeff Foster. This home study course requires five or more hours of homework before the field session. Preregistration is required and materials must be picked up at the Lawrence office between Aug. 5 and Aug. 16.

Bow Hunting Safety Courses

• RUSSELL -- Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Russell Library. This home study course requires five or more hours of homework before the field session. Instruction is by Herb Moore. Pre-registration is required in person at the Russell Town Hall between Aug. 19 and Aug. 30.
