MASSENA -- A person is dead following a Wednesday night house fire in Massena.
Police, fire and sheriff’s responded to a structure fire at 9:56 p.m. at 2224 State Rte. 420, which they identified as the Shari Caza residence.
Massena firefighters located an occupant in an upstairs bedroom. The person was taken to Massena Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m.
County officials said the identity of the deceased will eventually be released.
WWNY is reporting the person killed was a 5-year-old boy.
An autopsy is scheduled and there is an ongoing investigation, police said.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fire, along with St. Lawrence County and New York state cause and origin investigators.
