HOPKINTON -- Hopkinton-Fort Jackson Fire Department celebrated 65 years Saturday and honored a past chief with 75 years of fire service.

The department celebrated its 65-Year-Anniversary with an awards banquet for its members. The highlight of the evening joined by friends, family, neighboring departments, and special guest, was having the chance to honor one of our own for 75 years devoted to the Fire Service and the service of others.

Past Chief Gerald “Jerry” Goldworth, now with 75 years of Fire Service has literally spent a lifetime serving the communities in which he lived.

The department issued the following release honoring Golworth

“Ret. Chief Goldsworth began his service as a volunteer firefighter in 1940 when he joined West Sayville Fire Dept.

In 1953 he moved and transferred to Bohemia Fire Dept. Then again in 1970 he and his family moved to Hopkinton and has served with us right to present day. “Jerry” as he is called by his friends still runs call with us, mostly in a Safety Officer and Fire Police capacity, but his experience and guidance continues to prove beneficial.

In his 45 years with our department Ret. Chief Goldsworth has had a profound impact on our department serving 17 years as Secretary, 11 years as Director, 3 years as 3rd Asst. Chief, and 4 years as Chief.

As one of the first five Fire Commissioners, Ret. Chief Goldsworth was instrumental in the formation and establishment of our newly formed Fire District in 2010. Jerry was also named Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fireman of the Year 1979 and St Lawrence County Fireman of the Year 2001.

We could write a book on his many accomplishments or his impact on the Fire Service and his community… We could spend days listening to his many stories, pulling from them lessons learned and valuable advice… but in the interest of keeping this short, the members of the Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire Department and Citizens of the Town of Hopkinton (and so many others) would like to simply say Thank you ever so much Jerry!! 75 years is a huge milestone very few will ever make. You should be very proud, we sure as hell are.
