High winds could cause power outages across North Country

Posted

High winds across the North Country today could be the cause of a number of power outages in St. Lawrence County.

Winds across the North Country likely had a hand in the power outages today, as gusts of up to 47 mph were recorded at Potsdam Airport late this morning and are still higher than 40 mph this afternoon.

Late this afternoon, mainly small groups of customers without power were reported by National Grid in Hopkinton (9), and fewer than five customers each in Potsdam, Colton, Childwold, and Waddington, all of whom National Grid said they expected tom have resolved by early evening.

Breezy and gusty conditions are predicted to continue tonight and tomorrow with gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range, finally easing tomorrow night, according to the National Weather Service.
