High wind warnings, gusts up to 60 mph predicted Friday in St. Lawrence Valley as rain continues for next 24 hours

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the St. Lawrence Valley for Friday from 6 a.m. through 8 p.m.

Winds are expected to be 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph and may be hazardous and potentially damaging, the service said.

According to the service periods of rain will accompany winds that will increase from the southwest late Thursday night and early Friday morning and peak between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday.

Be aware of downed trees and power lines as well as possible road closures, the service warns.

Today there will be occasional showers and temperatures will reach near 60, the service said.

Tonight the low will be around 57 with precipitation at 100 percent, says the service.

Friday will see showers mainly before 11 a.m. with highs near 63 and winds will be 23 to 33 mph with gusts ranging from 40 to 60 mph.

The forecast for the week is as follows:

Today Occasional showers, mainly after 11am. High near 60. Breezy, with a south wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight Periods of rain. Low around 57. South wind 15 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday Showers, mainly before 11am. High near 63. Windy, with a southwest wind 23 to 33 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday Night A 30 percent chance of showers after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light after midnight. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Showers likely, mainly after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 48. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night A chance of rain showers before 2am, then a chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 31. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 25. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Monday Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Calm wind.
